Our next Service Unit Meeting on Thursday, November 10th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Avon Police Department.  If you have anything that you would like added to this agenda, please let me know as soon as possible.  Again, due to the “Super Troop” requirements, attendance will be taken.

Leader/Daughter Event

This year’s Leader/Daughter event will be held on Sat, December 10th, at Nautical Lanes in Avon Lake.  Please CLICK HERE flyer for details.  Completed forms and fees can be brought to the November SUM.

Adult Volunteer Background Checks

As discussed at the September SUM all returning adult volunteers in the Avon Villager service unit must complete their background check renewal this year.  Documents explaining the renewal process are attached.  All volunteers must renew between October 1, 2011 and April 30, 2012.  Our goal is to have ALL ADULT VOLUNTEERS registered by December 31, 2011.  This does not apply to new parents/volunteers who just registered this fall.  New volunteers must also complete the GSNEO Volunteer Application Click Here

 Blessing House

Cara Zetts is collecting Christmas and all occasion wrapping paper and scotch tape to donate to Blessing House, We Care We Share or another charity depending on the amount of donations.  Please bring your donations to the November SUM.

 Christmas Caroling

The French Creek Development Association is looking for older girls interested in Christmas Caroling on Saturday, December 3rd during the Santa Comes To Avon event.  Younger children will be able to meet Santa behind the Senior Center.  Santa’s sleigh will then lead a parade of carolers through Olde Avon Village to the Gazebo.  Anyone interested in caroling should contact Fran Burik at 934-4420 or Mary Berges at 937-0292.

 Metrohealth/NICU Service Project

Please see the below email from Fran Peters, an Avon Lake troop leader:

As many of you know I work in the NICU at Metrohealth.  In the past many of your troops have cut and donated fleece rectangles for our unit.  We use these 4" x 6 to 8" pieces to put under the babies heads as a cushion instead of a washcloth.  We go through them fast as we throw them away if they get soiled or spit-up on.  Please consider this as a service project for your troop.  You will need NEW boy/girl/holiday fleece and fabric scissors.  All you need to do is cut rectangles  4"x 6"....  the edges do NOT have to be neat and tidy.  I have cardboard templates if you need them.  I can also come in and speak to your troop about the NICU/baby care and bring some tiny baby stuff like diapers, bottles, nipples, blood pressure cuffs etc.....  little girls love these things.  In the past we have done this with older and younger troops together, the big girls are a great help to the little girls.

Please email Fran at franpeters.fp@gmail.com with any questions.  Anna Danese has also said that troops can bring the rectangles to the Lorain office or give them to Anna at a service unit meeting and she will make sure they get to Fran.
